Walking trails
In Memorial Park there are trails throughout the woods that you can walk
on. You can see the leaves change from green to yellow, orange, and red. Some
years you won't see the bright reds, oranges, and yellows in the fall, because
there might have been a drought or frost that killed the leaves. The leaves
change color in the fall, because the chlorophyll in the leaves is not there,
like it was in the spring and summer. The anthocyanin and carotenoid take over
the chlorophyll in the leaves making the leaves yellow, orange, and red. You can
see all these different colored leaves when you walk through the
trails.

The warmer days make the leaves have a more brilliant color,
but there has to be a lot of carbon in the atmosphere which makes
the earth warmer. The carbon that goes into trees from dead or
decaying organisms makes the oxygen that we breathe in. For the
leaves to grow, they need the nutirents that the trees take in from
the organisms that aren't living anymore.
The trees on the trail makes oxygen that we breathe. They make the oxygen by a
process called photosynthesis. Water goes into the trees along with carbon
dioxide, and oxygen and sugar are what the the trees give off.
